Description
1989-1250. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 27. A Romanesque three story brick building dominates the photo; the entrance at the right is indicated by a large round arch which extends the entire height of first floor; entrance block of building has a six story square tower which rises to left side of the entrance; five round arched windows in a group of two and a group of three make up the second story; third story has set of 3 round arched windows in tower and a group of five round arched windows above entrance; fourth story has 3 vertical windows on tower side and a triangular pediment with two vertical windows on entrance part; 5th and 6th floors on tower show a common round arched window; on top of the twoer are small round towers on each corner with a ballustrade between each one; to left of entrance block is another section which sits about a foot or two back from the facade of the entrance section; this left section has 3 floors; Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "Old Post Office building commenced in 1891 and completed in 1894... Used by the post-office department until 1933 when it was used by different federal work departments..."
