Description
Annotation translation: "Piton."
Annotation: "Piton."
Note: Ramseyer neg 1. (TG). (RI).
Note translation: Ramseyer neg 1. (TG). - Even though Piton's name was written on the mount it is much more likely that Ramseyer was the photographer and that Piton (a missionary in China) simply had a copy of the photograph which he handed over to the Basel Mission collection. (PST, PJ 2000-2001). - Published as picture no 1 in the album 'Achtzig Ansichten von der Goldküste (Westafrika) nach Originalaufnahmen des Missionars Fritz Ramseyer', Neuchatel 1895. (RI). - Caption in this publication: "The sea coast at Accra. - Along the whole of the Guinea Coast there are no harbours. Surf-boats are used for loading and unloading. This is often a dangerous process for passengers and goods. The coast is shallow, so the surf is often very high and the undertow is very strong. Boats with people in them quite often capsize."
