The Matador Booster Club was formed to support San Fernando Valley State College. San Fernando Valley State College is now California State University, Northridge.
Photograph caption dated February 15, 1965 reads "Valley State coaches Dr. Jerry Ball (left) of basketball fame and grid coach Sam Winningham, right, join basketball star Frank Nordyke while gagging it up with Irene Ryan, better known as 'Granny' of the 'Beverly Hillbillies' TV show. Miss Ryan will join other personalities for Feb. 18 Matador fund-raising banquet at Encino Oak Room." Ryan is being presented with a "Valley State" nightgown.
