Photograph article dated January 4, 1963 partially reads, "With clear, brisk weather predicted for the next four days, par was expected to take its worst beating in the 37-year history of the Los Angeles Open as a crack field of 150 pros and amateurs started the long grind today at Rancho Golf Course." Photograph caption reads, "Jack Nicklaus drives ball during practice round. Serious play opens today at Rancho Golf Course - Nicklaus is one of the favorites to win the tournament which starts the richest PGA tour in history."
