Handwritten in blue ink on front of board: "Hacienda Blacksmith Shop, New Almaden, California, 1870's." Handwritten in blue ink on back of the photograph, "Blacksmith shop, Hacienda, New Almaden, Calif. Early 1870's. Mr. Ferdinand F. Fiedler, leaning back against tree. Mr. W.Z. Christopher (accountant) with left hand on tree, light coat, dark vest. Mr. Fiedler was Hacienda foreman and patenter of an iron condenser in 1873 and with Mr. Randol patenter of a glass & wood condenser. From Mrs. J.R. Bailey (Leoline Hopkins) New Almaden school teacher in the 1880's." Stamped in ink: "Laurence E. Bulmore 1831 San Pedro Berkeley, California." Handwritten in pencil: "Man with beard is Mr. Ferdinand F. Fiedler."
