Description
Photograph shows a group portrait of three men. Reverend Vaugh Beckman is on the far left and Pastor Denis Moore is on the far right. The man in the middle may be Reverend Troy D. Perry. There is a banner behind them with the word "Victory" visible.
"The Council of Churches of Santa Clara County was founded in the spring of 1942. In 1999, the Council boasted a membership of 250 churches and religious organizations throughout California. There are 32 churches in Northern California. And in June of 1997 Vaughn Beckman, an openly gay man, was chosen to be the organization's executive director." ." From Ted Sahl, "From closet to community: a quest for gay & lesbian liberation in San Jose & Santa Clara County," (2002), p.117. "...Reverend Troy D. Perry founded the United Fellowship Metropolitan Community Church (UFMCC) in 1968." From Ted Sahl, "From closet to community: a quest for gay & lesbian liberation in San Jose & Santa Clara County," (2002), p.103. "Denis Moore became the senior pastor at UFMCC on September 21, 1986. He resigned two years later due a need to be "out of the closet regarding his spirituality." He reapplied to the Church after "laying all his cards on the table." His congregation accepted his application and, more that ten years later (1998) , Moore was still Pastor of UFMCC. From Ted Sahl, "From closet to community: a quest for gay & lesbian liberation in San Jose & Santa Clara County," (2002), p.107-108.
