The religion of Lutheranism is a major branch of Protestant Christianity that identifies with the teachings of Martin Luther, a German monk and theologian who sought to reform the practices of the Roman Catholic Church in the 16th century. Today, nearly 70 million Christians belong to Lutheran churches worldwide. View of the Hollywood Lutheran Church marquee, located at 1733 N. New Hampshire Avenue. The large marquee reads, "ELCA - A reconciling in Christ congregation. Embracing the community with Christ's inclusive love. Worship with us Sundays at 10:00 AM. Pastor, Daniel Hooper". Hollywood Lutheran Church was founded on May 29, 1921 and its present home was built three years later, in 1924 at a cost of $70,000.
