Description
On back: "Picture taken on lawn of J. R. Welch home, 253 South Eigth Street San Jose, where a concrete building of State College now stands. Right: Camellia Blanche Marsh, Mrs. Artus Metzger and sister of Mrs. J. R. Welch. Left: Ione Welch, daughter of Judge Welch. (I made the dress that I wore) dressed in airy pink flowered organdies, with miles of tucking & val. laces and val. insertions, carring pink parasols -- wore these clothes when they rode in the Rambler Auto, May 1, 1909 at Los Gatos. Auto was driven by Mrs. J. R. Welch and won two trophy cups for the best decorated auto driven by a lady. Auto covered with 10,000 real La France roses and some grey dusty miller (a job!! to decorate). Mrs. Welch was presented these two cups: The William Randolph Hearst Cup, The Santa Clara County Automobile Club Cup (notes by I. Welch, 1954) I have given the cups to the Historical Building at Santa Clara County Fair Grounds for display there. Acccepted there by Clyde Arbuckle -- County Historian." Signed I. Welch.
