Description: Photograph caption dated October 7, 1960 reads, "Bill Knight shovels dirt out of a hole in the rear of his house at 1211 N. Avon St., Burbank. His purpose: a fallout shelter. Knight, a 24-year-old ex-Marine, has spent his spare time the last two months digging the 8 1/2-foot hole. 'There's going to be a war,' he maintains, 'and the $3,500 cost of the shelter is very cheap life insurance.'"
