Description
Image of a stretch of the Cross River in Calabar showing the site of the Itu slave market. There are buildings in the foreground of the picture and a settlement in the distance around the bend in the river.
Itu is situated beside Enyong Creek, a river within later day Nigeria. Mary Slessor, the Scottish missionary, carried out mission work in this area and saw the old slave centre as the ideal base for her work.
