Local elementary-school students, all shown wearing bucket hats to protect them from the sun, attend a "Trees for Green L.A." tree-planting ceremony at the Sepulveda Garden Center, located north of the 101 Freeway, at Hayvenhurst and Magnolia streets. Operated by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, the center occupies approximately 16 acres and contains approximately 420 garden plots of approximately 10' x 20' in size, where neighborhood gardeners grow a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, and flowers.
