Description
This is a product shot of field survey instruments made by the United Geophysical Corporation. Information provided by the photographer places this company at 550 East Herkimer Street; however, the 1951 Pasadena City Directory lists the address for the laboratory as 492 Herkimer Street. The image was taken on October 25, 1950, and was ordered by Eugene C. Rothenberger, construction supervisor for the company. According to the 1951 Pasadena City Directory, Mr. Rothenberger and his wife Betty resided in Sierra Madre. A Google search shows that the United Geophysical Corporation was founded by Herbert Hoover, Jr. in the 1930s. The company's focus was to improve technologies for locating new subterranean oil deposits.
