Photograph caption dated June 25, 1931 reads, "Photo, taken today, shows federal authorities dumping into the gutter 1000 gallons of alleged poisonous Jamaica ginger extract seized in an investigation that resulted from 'ginger jake' paralysis cases. The investigation brought indictments of six persons on charges of conspiracy to violate the prohibition act. In addition to the barrels, nearly 4000 four-ounce bottles of the stuff, each containing 'an acute case of jake paralysis,' according to officers, were destroyed."
