Description
Connie and Lee begin the interview discussing the importance of writing to Lee’s living, and how his earlier experiences with the death of loved ones pushed him into becoming an addict and homeless. They proceed to talk about how the book shows comparisons to John Steinbeck’s work, and how Lee’s desire to find work on the streets differed from his motivation to work as part of mainstream society. Connie then has Lee read a passage from the book on hustling while working for Street News. They move on to discuss the legalization of drugs and whether or not that would have changed Lee’s circumstances, and the column that Lee established to answer questions from others, before coming to the topic of Lee’s family and their involvement in his life. Connie closes the interview requesting an autograph for her copy of the book.
