Description
This photograph, taken by Harrel Wiley, depicts the "Book World" float at the Second Annual Del Paso-Robla Festival and Parade held on August 23, 1969. The float was a joint entry of three branches of the Sacramento City-County Library: Del Paso, Hagginwood, and North Sacramento. The float was sponsored by the Del Paso Heights Community Library Advisory Committee to increase connections between the library and the community. Riders and marchers of the float were primarily members of the Summer Reading Clubs. These marchers, some dressed in costumes of popular characters such as Pinocchio and Mary Poppins, handed out booklets that included an application for a library card. This float won first place in its class!
