Linn Ullman discusses her book, “Before you Sleep." She begins by explaining that the book is told mainly in flashbacks and traces the history of a family filled with fractured personalities. The Blom family consists of Karin the narrator, her mother Anni, her father who is never given a name, Juli, and her sister Selma. Ullman explains that each member of the family drinks, but each for their own reason. She discusses how the book explores the relationships between the women of the story as well as, the women’s relationships to the men in their lives. Also in this interview, Ullman discusses her parents, director Ingmar Bergman and actress Liv Ullman and tells of their frequent family reunions in Norway. She shares a story of her unsuccessful attempt at acting and reminisces about her early hopes of becoming a professional ballet dancer. In addition, she explains how when she is away from home she makes sure to always call her son and tell him goodnight.
