Description
The Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, located at 3939 S. Figueroa Street, was officially opened on July 4, 1959 by then Vice President Richard M. Nixon and was designed by Welton Becket; general contractor was L.E. Dixon Company. The last event at the arena was a Bruce Springsteen concert. Photograph caption dated March 26, 1964 reads "Bob Pettit of the St. Louis Hawks rifles the ball down court to begin fast break after grabbing rebound from Rudy LaRusso (left). Jim Krebs and Zelmo Beaty (right) begin the furious dash to meet the ball, while Len Wilkens (behind Krebs) watches. The series resumes Saturday at the Sports Arena, with the Hawks holding a 2-1 edge." See image 00157651 for additional photo in this series.
