Description
Daily press reviews primarily regarding Japanese Americans compiled by War Relocation Authority from September 11 to September 18, 1942. Topics and titles include: farm labor shortage, incarceree work on beet fields, milk shortage, transfer of incarcerees from Assembly Centers to Incarceration Camps, incarcerees voting at Tanforan, fire breaking out at Heart Mountain, preparation of Heart Mountain for habitation and arrival of incarcerees, refusal of Japanese American woman to be repatriated, public complaining about Japanese American voting rights, vegetable gardens at Manzanar Camp, the naming of Granada (Camp Amache), editorial articles in support of Japanese American rights and condemning discrimination, daily life at Heart Mountain Camp, removal of two incarcerees labeled as "potentially dangerous" from Tanforan Temporary Assembly Center, incarcerated Japanese to become priest.
The War Relocation Authority (WRA), together with the Wartime Civil Control Administration (WCCA), the Civil Affairs Division (CAD) and the Office of the Commanding General (OFG) of the Western Defense Command (WDC) operated together to segregate and house some 110,000 men women and children from 1942 to 1945. The collection contains documents and photographs relating to the establishment and administrative workings of the (WDC), the (WRA) and the (WCCA) for the year 1942.
