Description
Connie and Thomas begin the interview discussing how American culture praises youth and doesn’t dwell on death, and Thomas’s early encounters with cadavers through his father’s occupation. Thomas then talks about his son’s alcoholism, the prevalence of alcoholism in his family, and how such experiences influenced his writing. Connie has Thomas read a passage from the book, and they proceed to consider Thomas’s divorce, his custody of his children, and how divorce has come to be treated as something minor in American society before considering the importance of the living being witness to and responsible for the dead. Thomas then reads another passage in the work, and Connie closes the interview requesting an autograph for her copy of the book.
