Description
The proprietor of Rengstorff's Landing and a prominent agriculturalist, Henry Rengstorff was born in Hanover, Germany, on 29 September 1839. In 1850, at the age of 21, he boarded a ship bound fro San Francisco. Working as a farmer in San Jose, Rengstorff saved his money and in 1859 was able to open the Landing where many shipments of grain and lumber came to port. Rengstorff was a successful businessman who owned much property throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. Illustration from "Pen Pictures From the 'Garden of the World'"
