Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated December 23, 1950 partially reads, "Lertie Smith, 78, is literally and without doubt a more authentic Santa Claus to hundreds of Valley people than the elf who climbs in and out of chimneys once a year. Pop Smith owns nothing. Therefore he has nothing material to give away. Pop doesn't do anything much but sit and watch the cars whiz past on Cahuenga Blvd. Therefore, on the surface, it would seem he has no helpful deeds to offer. Yet he is a Santa Claus 365 days a year to hundreds of tots, teen agers and oldsters - merely because he is Pop and he is always sitting at the door of his 'office' at 3283 Cahuenga Blvd., North Hollywood, to pass a cheerful word with all who pass." Photograph caption reads, "The tree was a gift from a visitor - Pop gets it ready for all who pass to enjoy."; See images #00137192 through #00137194 for all photos in this series.
