Exterior view of the Antelope Valley Regional Library (now called Lancaster Regional library), a branch of the County of Los Angeles Public Library system, located on West Avenue J in Lancaster. The first library in Lancaster was established by the county in October 1912. For a number of years the library occupied various buildings, such as a drugstore, a Chamber of Commerce building, and a courthouse. In 1950, the Library moved to Fig Avenue and remained there until a larger library structure (shown here) was opened on West Avenue J in 1964. This building was used until 1995. At the time this photograph was taken in May 1969, Lancaster was an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County, but later became its own city in 1977.
