Description
Previously published in Fortune Magazine, April 1944 under the title of "Issei. Nisei. and Kibei". Describes the activities leading to incarceration of Japanese Americans. Describes public opinion of, and racist attitude towards Japanese-Americans and the decision to implement incarceration. Describes the government's actions in implementing incarceration. Describes War Relocation Authority activities during incarceration and resettlement. Describes incarceration camp conditions, governance and other elements. Subheadings include: Migration Eastward; Coddling, at 31 Cents a Day; "Politics"; Registration and Segregation; Relocation; "Military Necessity," "Protective Custody". Generally written favorably towards WRA activities. Includes front and back cover drawings depicting incarceration camp life by Mine Okubo.
This collection contains materials generated by J. Ralph McFarling, a Community Analyst for the War Relocation Authority, documenting the Amache Concentration Camp in Granada, Colorado where Japanese-Americans were incarcerated during World War II.
