Description
Founded on February 24, 1918, the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church rests at 1350 Twenty-Fifth Street in this 1943 photograph. Originally the home of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, the Lutheran congregation purchased the building in 1918 and, under guidance of Reverend Curtis Wiberg, moved it two lots south, in 1919, to the corner northwest of Twenty-Fifth and N Streets. In 1950, the group relocated to a new building at 2620 Twenty-First Street. By 1952, the vernacular-style church, which was built in 1891/92 under the guidance of Reverend Herbert B. Hutchins, was razed in favor of a professional building.
