Description
The structure on the left of this photograph is the flour mill built by James Lick in 1855. The interior was built of mahogany and cedar and the exterior of red bricks. The milling machinery and equipment was the finest available. The total cost was $200,000. The circular structure on the right is a rat proof warehouse with walls two feet thick. In front of the warehouse several workers are loading sacks of flour onto a cart. The mill was located on the banks of the Guadalupe River and was destroyed by fire in 1882. The shell of the warehouse still stands.
