Description
This Park is located in the mountains east of San Diego County, and offers hiking, camping, horse back riding, and biking trails. The park is 26,000 acres and contains Lake Cuyamaca. The land the park rests on was originally part of a Mexican Land Grant given to Agustin Olvera in the 1830s or 1840s. The Olvera sold the land and it was used for ranching by a succession of owners until in 1935 it was sold to Ralph Maynard Dyar who in 1933 donated half of the appraised value to the Park Department and sold the Park Department the other half. The monument reads, “This Park was made possible through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Maynard Dyar, Ralph Stevens Dyar, Helen Maynard Dyar, and the State of California
