Handwritten note on front of booklet, 'First County Library Branch Book, Monterey County Libraries.' Spreckels is a small company town near Salinas that was built to house workers from the Spreckels Sugar Company plant which operated there from 1899 until 1982, named after its founder 'Sugar King' Claus Spreckels.
