Additional poster text: HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. It attacks the human immune system, leaving an infected person vulnerable to a number of serious illnesses and cancers. The virus lives in the blood, vaginal fluid and semen of infected people. But the virus does not survive for long in the open air and can only be passed on by certain kinds of direct contact.HIV is contracted through vaginal or anal sex without a condom, injection or injury with used needles, mother to unborn or newborn baby. HIV is not contracted through working with people with HIV or AIDS, coughs and sneezes, holding hands, insect bites, food or knives and forks, toilets or sinks, protected sex with proper use of a condom.
