Accompanying photo spread page title, "Fierce Brush Fire Perils Handsome Homes in Griffith Park District," Los Angeles Times, 21 Dec. 1929: A10 A cloud of smoke from a fire in Griffith Park billows over the park's hills in the distance. It is viewed from an elevated perspective. Below the camera's sight line, treetops line the bottom edge. A winding road emerges from the treetops at left. Just beyond it, cars park along the road's curve at the base of a hill. A small hill rises, off-center to the left, in the near distance. A trail stretches up its near side. To the right, another hill rises and extends beyond the right frame. Between the 2 hills, an opaque cloud of dark smoke occupies the upper right half of the image. The cloud thins as it extends to the left. In the distance at left, another hillside is visible beyond the thinning smoke. This photograph appears with the article, "GRIFFITH PARK FIRE HAVOC CHECKED IN HARD BATTLE: One Killed and Many Hurt Before Weary Army Subdues Blaze; Loss Total Runs High," Los Angeles Times, 21 Dec. 1929: A1 Text from negative sleeve: LOS ANGELES PARKS, GRIFFITH PARK, FIRE, 1929 [handwritten on attached note:] 1 discolored (try to scan) Text from newspaper caption: Griffith Park Fire Taken at its Height Yesterday from Western Avenue Entrance to Park.
