H. H. West, Jr. stands barefoot at the center of the photograph in front of a large plant. He is in Sycamore Park having just taken a test for the Boy Scouts. His head is turned to the left and he holds a hatchet in his left hand and another object in his right. He stands near railroad tracks that run through the lower left corner of the photograph. A utility pole rises in the background on the left and power lines run on a diagonal across the upper left corner.
