Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of H. H. West's socks hanging from a clothesline at the group's campsite near Rock Creek. A rope extends from the upper left corner towards the canopy standing in the near distance, right-of-center. Midway across the rope, a stick stands upright and supports the rope at center. Left-of-center, socks and a towel hang from the makeshift clothesline. They are secured to the line by "clothespins" -- that is, small split sticks. In the distance, supplies and gear are spread around the campsite surrounding the canopy. At left, a woman stands with her back to the camera. Posts and pans sit on the ground to her right. At center and beneath the canopy, another woman stands at a table with her back to the camera. Supplies and gear sit on tables that line the far perimeter of the campsite, left-of-center. The canopy stands right-of-center. Text from negative sleeve: Rock Creek trip, 1941. Our camp. Washed all my sox and made clothes pins by splitting sticks and hung all up to dry.
