Description

West stands in the near distance, right-of-center. A table littered with dining utensils stands in front of her. She bends over towards the right and cleans a pan. To the right of her, the Owens River juts into frame. The camp stove sits on the ground behind and to the left of Mary. Trees line the edge of the campsite starting from the left and receding as they pass behind Mary and towards the river. Pots and pans lie on the ground in front of the trees at left and linens hang from a few branches. Beyond the Owens River, mountains stand in the far distance. Text from negative sleeve: 1263. Thompsons, on Owens River, about 1915. I camped there two days and took my rifle and hunted up into Dead Man's canyon for deer. No deer and was all alone, and not pleasant. 1.
