Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of the interior of the North Beach bath house in Santa Monica. People swim and play in a pool that occupies the foreground. Along the left edge of the image, a wooden support beam arches upward as it extends out-of-frame at top. A hand in motion appears to reach out towards the right from behind the beam. Above the pool, wooden arches stand equally spaced to support a pitched roof. Baskets of flowers hang from rafters over the pool. Semi-circular windows line the wall on the right side of the pool and a walkway stretches across the far end of the pool. Text from negative sleeve: 1303. Santa Monica, Calif. About 1895. 1. 2. Two pictures of the North Beach and bathers of the day. 3. Interior view of the old North Beach Bath house plunge. 3 films. It may have been the Venice plunge when first built. Have forgotten which now.
