Photograph of several beachgoers standing in the surf and sitting on the beach at North Beach in Santa Monica. The shore stretches across the foreground on a slight upward angle from left to right. Waves roll onto the shore towards the camera. Two children sit with their backs to the camera at left. Another person stands with their back to camera just beyond and to the right of them. At the surf, about 3 women stand in or near the water with their backs to the camera. Another woman sits on the beach at far right near the surf. A few people appear to play in the water in the distance at left. Along the right edge and in the far distance, the end of a pier juts into the frame.
Text from negative sleeve: 1303. Santa Monica, Calif. About 1895. 1. 2. Two pictures of the North Beach and bathers of the day. 3. Interior view of the old North Beach Bath house plunge. 3 films. It may have been the Venice plunge when first built. Have forgotten which now.
