Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Mary A. West (Mary Adelbert Teel West Shepard) was H. H. West's first wife and the mother of Elizabeth West (Elizabeth West Siemsen) and his other children. Wilson D. West was H. H. West's brother. Mary West sits at her dining room table with her daughter, brother-in-law, cousin, and maid. A light fixture hangs overhead. There is a rug on the floor and paintings hang on the walls. The table is covered with glasses and dishes. Joe Herron's arm and crossed legs are visible at the left of the image. Text from negative sleeve: 1305. Venice, Calif. About 1903. The interior of our cottage at corner Speedway and Island Ave. 1. L to R. Joe Herron - a roomer. Wilson D. West - a roomer. Mrs Mary A West. Eva Taylor, our maid. Elizabeth West. Lola Bidwell, a daughter of Chris Bidwell, Supervisor of Shasta Co., who had come to visit us, being cousin of Mrs Mary A West. Joe Herron and Wilson West worked or [sic] grocery firm of Reed & Young at Venice. Wanted to board with us so I cleaned out our wood shed at rear of house, made a bedroom of it and they slept out there. 2. Same group and time, but not so good. 2 films.
