Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of Mertie West standing on a bank and looking out over a river or stream near Lane Redwood Flat. Mertie West stands on an elevated, rocky bank at right. She faces the stream at left. The stream follows a sharp curve through the image. It extends from the lower left corner on an angle towards the right before curving back to the left and disappearing behind some brush. Beyond Mertie and the stream, a road passes alongside the stream on a slight curve. Behind the road, a tree-covered cliffside rises across the background. Text from negative sleeve: 1620. Yellowstone trip, 1942. Friday, July 2, 1943. 1. Crescent City. Calif. Our Auto Camp, with my car in the rear. I had a flat tire here and changed it right where it is standing. 2. Down thru the Redwoods. Mertie West in front of car. Wonderful drive today. 3. Lane's Flat. Mertie West looking at the swimming pool. 4. The night before the Fourth of July and we had to take a tent for sleeping quarters. Our tent and car at Lane's Flat. 4 films [Note: In the first instance of the year date, 1942, the last digit (2) is handwritten over a typed 3. The day of the second instance of the date also contains a handwritten "2" over a typed 3. The wrong portion of the date may have been corrected, the correct date would be July 3, 1942 as the trip was taken in 1942, not 1943.]
