Based on the age of Lester Shaw in this image, the date has been estimated as about 1896, rather than about 1898. Mertie Whitaker reaches her hand to her nephew, Lester Shaw. He wears a white gown. She is in motion and therefore slightly blurry. There is a fence at the left and a gate that is ajar beyond. There are houses across the street and trees throughout. Text from negative sleeve: 1744.
