Photograph of the former residence of the Ambrose and Keyes families standing on the west side of Avenue 24 (formerly North Hellman Street). The camera looks west across Avenue 24, which passes across the foreground. The house stands in the near distance at center and is viewed at a slight angle. A large shrubby tree stands to the left of the house. The house itself has a front porch that spans the entire front of the house. On the right side of the front yard, a large palm tree stands. A neighboring house (partial view) is visible in the distance to the right of the palm tree. Text from negative sleeve: 1690. Los Angeles, California. North Hellman street, East Los Angeles. Now Avenue 24. (1943) 1. The alley behind Doc Schloss drug store. At the alley now almost hid by evergreens, is the house where the Coopers lived. A wire ran to this house from the Western Union branch in Doc Schloss drug store, and Mrs H.H.Cooper handled the messages. 2. 3. Two views of the house next to it further up the street, with big palm tree in front. Here lived the Keys [sic] family and the Ambroses. 3 films taken August 1936
