Mertie Whitaker became H. H. West's second wife in the 1920's.
Mertie Whitaker kneels next to her nephew, Lester Shaw. He wears a white gown and she has a bun in her hair. She is bending down and therefore slightly blurry. There is a fence at the left and houses across the street. There are trees throughout.
Based on the age of Lester Shaw in this image, the date has been estimated as about 1896, rather than about 1898.
