Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of the former Quayle residences, after renovations, standing on the far side of Griffin Avenue. Griffin Avenue stretches across the foreground. On the far side of the street, 2 identical houses stand side-by-side at center. A driveway passes between the 2 houses. In front of the house at right, a car is parked on the street, facing left. An apartment building stands to the right of the 2 houses and a house stands to the left; both are in partial view. Text from negative sleeve: 1927. Los Angeles, California. 2223 Griffin Avenue, 1942. A policeman bought the two old Quayle houses across the street from us. They were standing there when we came to Los Angeles in 1888. Belonged to a couple of sisters named Quayle who were, I think, school teachers. The Policeman cut down the two big palm trees, one on each lawn, put in walls, driveway, changed the porches, built a big garage, and fixed them up nicely. I took a picture of them for my records, as I had a number of the pictures of the houses taken many years ago. 1. The Quayle properties after overhauling. 1 film
