Description
Access to this collection is generously supported by Arcadia funds. Photograph of Mertie West standing on the platform at the Albuquerque railroad station. Mertie West stands in the foreground, just left-of-center, and looks to the camera. She stands on a brick-paved platform that enters frame at left and extends into the distance at right. Behind her, about a dozen other travelers stand or walk along the platform. Directly behind Mertie, a news stand stands. It is viewed at an angle from the side, facing right. Along the top of the building it reads, "NEWS STAND Tre[...] SANDWICHES." A low wall lines the left side of the platform. As it stretches into the distance, trees and other vegetation grow behind it. A small stand with signs reading "WESTERN UNION," stands alongside the wall at left. At far right, train tracks run parallel to the platform. A train is visible sitting on the tracks in the distance.
