She appears to actually be visiting the Old South Meeting House. Photograph of Mertie West standing in front of the pulpit in Old South Meeting House and reading a small printed sign. Mertie West stands in the near distance at center and appears slightly blurred. She stands in profile, facing left. Mertie looks at a small sign sitting atop a balustrade that lines the front of the pulpit. Along the left edge, an intricately carved, wood pulpit rises at left. Beyond Mertie, the meeting hall spans the image. At far right, enclosed seating areas enter frame. Across the background, side galleries line the second- and third-floor. Beneath the galleries, a display space sits behind a colonnade. Text from negative sleeve: 2352. Eastern trip October 1947 Boston 1 Mertie West on corner below Old State House. At her left in the street is the cobblestone circle marking the site of the Boston massacre. It is right behind the auto 2 & 3 Two views of Mertie West reading the printed sign in Old South Church. It said that George Washington came into the Church after he drove British out entering thru a door in the balcony at right 4 Mertie West and caretaker and guard introphy [sic] and relic room of Fanueil [sic] Hall 5 & 6 Two pictures of Mertie West at the Public Market 7 & 8 Two views of tablets in wall of cemetery of Old North Church One with Mertie West
