Description

Photograph of Mertie West (right) asking for directions to the Tomb of the Unknown soldier from Mr. and Mrs. Guard of Flagler, Colorado. A driveway passing through Arlington National Cemetery spans the width of the bottom edge. It enters frame from the lower right corner and curves to the left before arcing back to the right as it disappears in the distance. From left to right, Mrs. Guard, Mr. Guard and Mertie West stand in the middle of the driveway at center. Mrs. Guard looks to camera. Mr. Guard faces camera, but looks down to read a map he holds. Mertie West faces slightly left, towards Mr. Guard. Behind and to the right of them, gravestones stand on the cemetery's lawn. They stand in rows as the lawns stretch back into the distance.
