Photograph of a guard patrolling the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. A black mat stretches across the image, just above the bottom edge, in the foreground. At right, a guard is caught mid-stride walking down the mat and in front of the tomb. He is in profile, facing left. The guard rests a rifle to his near shoulder as he marches past the tomb. Behind him at center, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier stands. The marble, neoclassical monument is viewed from its west face. An inscription is framed by 2 pilasters. The inscription reads, "HERE RESTS IN HONORED GLORY AN AMERICAN SOLDIER KNOWN BUT TO GOD." It is surrounded by posts linked with chains. Wide stone steps cascade downwards behind it. Trees stand in the background at left and right.
