Description
Scope/Content: An oral history with Julia Hoigaard, who was born in Minnesota and grew up around lakes. She was always surrounded by water but it wasn’t until she was 18 when she saw the ocean for the first time. Now having lived near the ocean for about 50 years, she has a deep respect for its power and describes it as being a “forgiving place” with transformative abilities. She talks about her first time seeing a beach, the day she saw the California state fish in Newport, her preference for west coast beaches over east coast beaches, and a how waking up one morning on the beach changed her.
