This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco."
Text written under photo: "Refugee Shaks [sic]. Built on Speedway Golden Gate Park to house destitute persons whose homes were destroyed by the fire of 1906." Two long barracks-like structures can be seen. The ground is rather rocky. In the distance, between the two buildings, a man with a cart and horse can be seen unloading lumber.
