Photograph was edited for publication purposes Sandberg Lodge, originally Sandberg's Summit Hotel, was located on the Ridge Route highway in the Sierra Pelona Mountains. Built in 1914 by Harald Sandberg, the lodge was sold several times. Walter "Lucky" Stevens, a part time actor, purchased the property in 1951, with plans to restore and reopen the lodge. The lodge was destroyed by fire in 1961. Photograph caption dated January 6, 1955 reads "Mrs. Sara Stevens puts finishing touches to ceramic art work in shop at Sandberg Lodge that once was bright spot for highway motorists before completion of new route.
