Photograph caption dated September 26, 1956 reads, "High in Upper Kagel Canyon may be found the hardy type of modern-day pioneer like Ernest Koepke, left, and his father-in-law, John H. Allen, 79-year-old retired former Inglewood water engineer. Koepke came to canyon to recover his health and did.
