San Fernando Valley State College later became California State University, Northridge. Photograph caption dated September 28, 1957 reads, "Wearing freshmen beanies, members of first freshman class at Valley state college in Northridge parade across football field during opening game at Reseda High School. More than 200 freshmen entered this semester, marking start toward four-year college. Freshmen and upperclassmen competed in tug-of-war during half-time."
