Photograph was edited for publication purposes
Photograph from article dated December 25, 1962 shows 16-year-old Sylmar High School student and amateur astronomer, Ralph Merletti going through his scrapbook filled with the history of Sylmar which he compiled, indexed and presented to the chamber of commerce. The chamber "presented Ralph with a plaque, honoring him as Sylmar's first historian." In addition to the report, Merletti wrote to the H. M. Goushe co., roadmap makers and Rand McNally and co. and requested that Sylmar be included in their maps.
